Conscious Capitalism builds on the foundations of capitalism – voluntary exchange, entrepreneurship, competition, freedom to trade and the rule of law. These are essential to a healthy functioning economy, as are other elements of Conscious Capitalism including trust, compassion, collaboration and value creation.

Higher Purpose

Recognizing that every business has a purpose that includes, but goes beyond, making money and financial returns. By focusing on its Higher Purpose, a business inspires, engages and energizes its stakeholders aligning the business with that purpose. Business can and should be done with a higher purpose in mind, not just with a view to maximizing profit A compelling sense of purpose creates an extraordinary degree of engagement for all stakeholders and catalyzes tremendous organizational energy.

Stakeholder Orientation

Conscious businesses are explicitly managed for the simultaneous benefit of all of their stakeholders, including the community, customers, suppliers, employees and investors. A conscious business aligns the interests of all stakeholders, so that what is good for one is good for all. If the business creates value for all of them then the business ecosystem will be strong, healthy and resilient.

Conscious Culture

Conscious businesses feel different when you walk the halls. They have clear, explicit values – and will hire and fire for them. These values permeate their actions and interactions with all stakeholders, creating relationships based on trust, love and care.

Conscious Leadership

It takes a special person to lead an organization like this. Someone who is not only adept at business management but who embraces a higher purpose and inspires others to travel along the path with them. Conscious leaders can navigate the complexity of creating value for all stakeholders while at the same time creating caring healthy cultures. Recognizing that “leaders get the organizations they deserve,” they challenge themselves to continually grow in their own leadership and humanity to allow for the organization’s health and vitality.
